Toms Drive Residence

-Hood River, Oregon Design/Build
-Approximately 2300 square feet
-Cempo Block Construction

Project started in the Fall of 2002 and was completed in the Fall of 2003. The house was designed by Sorensen Construction, Inc. for the Sorensen family. The house was built on a lot in the Stonegate Development on the West side of Hood River. The house is extremely efficient for the following reasons:

-Insulated blocks stacked on the concrete footing to the roof assembly.
-Manufactured trusses over second story with spray on foam for sealed envelope.
-Insulated slab on grade on the first floor.
-Hydronic heat throughout.
-Hydronic heat and domestic heat sources: Natural gas on demand.
-Pigmented plaster interior, Stucco exterior.
-All finish wood is recycled salvage material.
-Covered porch on West, East and North sides.

The Toms Drive Residence was designed for the Sorensen family. Bedrooms upstairs and Living area/office downstairs reminiscent of a turn of the century “four-square” residence. The house is extremely comfortable with beautiful area views to the East and West. We installed a grand fireplace which warms the entire first floor. The salvage timbers are used for false beams and posts to create a warm post/beam look. The countertops are cast in place black concrete with classic warm oak cabinetry throughout.
The landscaping consists of all drought resistant plantings with drip irrigation. The house was a huge success for raising a young family. It will provide security and warmth for many generations of families in the future.
