Phelps Creek Residence

-Hood River Build, Architect – Richard Brown, Portland
-Approximately 1400 square feet
-Cempo Block Construction

Project started in the Summer of 2008 and was completed in the Fall of 2009. The house was designed by Richard Brown from Portland. The house sits on a 5 acre pristine parcel on the West side and close to town. The property has groves of mature Oak trees and a nice view of Mt. Hood. The home is quite efficient due to the following:

-Passive solar orientation
-Insulated blocks stacked on the concrete footing to the roof assembly.
-Timber framed roof assembly with structurally insulated roof panels.
-All windows and doors are aluminum clad with Low E/Argon.
-Insulated slab on grade.
-Hydronic heat throughout.
-Hydronic heat and domestic heat sources: Argo boiler – infloor, Electric tank -domestic
-Rais wood burning stove

The Phelps Creek Residence is a beautiful cabin nestled amongst groves of Oak trees with a wonderful clearing to the south to capture Mt. Hood views. The house exemplifies Northwest modern style architecture. Richard Brown Architects did an excellent job siting the house to take advantage of the stunning surrounding landscape and views. The timber frame roof is massive as it provides great protection to the south as the house’s shed roof projects over the 12’ South wall. The south facing glazing creates a feeling of actually being outside while enjoying the security of the warm radiant heat of the cabin. We are thrilled with the project.
