High Prairie Residence
-High Prarie, Washington. Sorensen Construction Inc. – Build, Andre Debar – Architect
-Approximately 2300 square feet
-Cempo Block Construction
Project started in the Summer of 2005 and was completed in the Fall of 2006. The house was designed by Andre Debar Architects in Portland. The house rests on a stunning property on the rolling hills of High Prarie, Washington. The house is extremely efficient for the following reasons:
-Insulated blocks stacked on the concrete footing to the roof assembly.
-Site built trusses with Structurally Insulated panels over single story.
-Manufactured trusses over second story with spray on foam for sealed envelope.
-All windows and doors are aluminum clad, low E/ Argon.
-Insulated slab on grade on the first floor.
-Hydronic heat first floor.
-Hydronic heat and domestic heat sources: Propane fired tank.
-Future Solar Hot Water system infrastructure installed
The house is on a 20 acre parcel with fantastic views for 360 degrees. The logistics of getting to the site year round was a challenge, however, the tranquility and beauty of the project site was worth the extra effort. A very simple house with sleeping quarters above and great room/kitchen/utility below. All views from the interior are projected South with extended living space to the East with a liberal covered porch. The house is warm and comfortable and provides the inhabitants with a quiet and serene sanctuary when the inclemental weather of the Northwest is present.
