Carroll Road Residence

- Mosier, Oregon Design/Build
- Approximately 3200 square feet
- Cempo Block Construction

Project started in the Summer of 2007 and was completed in the Winter of 2009. The house was designed by Sorensen Construction, Inc. and the owner. The house sits on a 29 acre parcel on a hillside facing the Dry Creek Valley in Mosier. Stunning views to the East and North as the house was built into the knoll to the West. The first floor is solicited as a Bed and Breakfast. The property grows many acres of organic grapes. The home is quite efficient due to the following:

-Insulated blocks stacked on the concrete footing to the roof assembly.
-Trussed hip roof with spray on foam, rigid, on the entire roof and between floors
-All windows and doors are aluminum clad with Low E/Argon.
-Insulated slab on grade on the first floor.
-Insulated slab on framing on the second floor.
-Hydronic heat throughout.
-Hydronic heat and domestic heat sources: All electric open loop system
-ERV system to enhance circulation and fresh air supply.
-Solar Hot Water system to boost infloor heat and domestic hot water storage

The house is quite simple, a basic square footprint with a 5/12 pitch hip roof with liberal overhangs to establish solid protection against the seasons prone to the Northwest. It was a complete custom build for a retired couple. The first floor was designed to be utilized as bed and breakfast bedrooms/bathrooms and a wine tasting room. The architectural feel of the house, with roughly textured stucco walls and recycled antiqued Rafters and beams, is truly Northwest with a touch of a country house set in the rolling hills somewhere in France. The property is stunning. The Carroll Residence looks as if it has been part of the property for generations. We are very proud of the contribution the house gives to the surrounding vistas
